Sylvie Vartan, who just said goodbye to the stage in January at the age of 80, was presented with an Honorary Victoire by her son David Hallyday on Friday, her first award at this ceremony. A tribute had been paid to her shortly before by mezzo-soprano Axelle Saint-Cirel, who was revealed to the general public at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. She performed “La Maritza”, one of Sylvie Vartan’s hits, about her childhood in Bulgaria.
I have always had the privilege of being able to choose what I wanted to do, to sing the songs that I wanted and that suited me.
