The original director of the musical Élie Chouraqui wanted to ban the revival of Pascal Obispo. He was dismissed by the courts this Wednesday, January 31, and ordered to pay 10.000 euros to Pascal Obispo.

The director Elie Chouraqui sued Pascal Obispo for having put together a new version of the show, without his consent. After filing a complaint for copyright infringement, trademark infringement, parasitism and unfair competition against a new version of the show Pascal Obispo, Élie Chouraqui ultimately failed to win this Wednesday, January 31. However, he argued:
I find that indecent. (…) I find it dishonest to take my work, everything I have done (…) and appropriate it by saying: “It’s the 25th anniversary of the “Ten Commandments”, but it’s just me, there are no more others”

From his side Pascal Obispo contradicted:
It's a new show! This is not a return of the musical. We are not doing the same thing again, but another version with a new choreographer, a new director, a new troupe. With the same songs of course, but with new ones. It's a little bit like “Starmania”, which has had several versions
Elie Chouraqui has just been dismissed by the courts, which therefore vindicates the famous singer. Élie Chouraqui is finally ordered to pay 10.000 euros to Pascal Obispo as well as 5.000 euros to Lionel florence et Patrice Guirao, authors.
