The or the nyckelharpa is a traditional stringed musical instrument of Swedish origin. In this country, it is also considered a national emblem and has appeared for many years on bank notes. While the first traces of nyckelharpa date back to the 14the century, it is still very popular today in Sweden and even around the world.
Le nyckelharpa is a bowed instrument on which the left hand determines the pitch of the notes using a keyboard equipped with keys. This is where its name comes from: in Swedish key means “key” or “key”. It also has the particularity of having sympathetic strings: strings that the musician never touches but which nevertheless vibrate “by sympathy”, that is to say indirectly.
