Citadel and fortifications of Belfort

The citadel of Belfort and the fortifications dominate the city of Belfort.

The citadel of Belfort is located just above the Lion de Belfort.

The Belfort citadel is open access and free every day at times: from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
On September 18, 2020, The Citadel and the Lion of Belfort are designated “favorite monument of the French 2020” during the program “Favorite monument of the French” on France 3 (for European Heritage Days).

The best places to admire The Lion
are the “Terrasse du Lion” (open every day from 10h-> 12h and 14h-> 18h – entrance fee) and also lower for the less athletic, the Arsenal la Poudrière car park.
