The title almost didn't come out.
In 1977, David Richards, a sound engineer who had worked with David Bowie, suggested that he meet the group Queen for a joint recording. But the collaboration does not go as well as expected.
In hindsight, guitarist Brian May says: It's difficult to work with Bowie, because we had two different working methods. It was stimulating but also almost impossible to live together. We are stubborn as mules and so is Mr. Bowie. In fact, he's probably as much as the four of us combined. I think it was helpful, but even after recording, disagreements persisted about how the piece should be released or if it should even be released
Bowie is a perfectionist and initially behaves in an authoritarian manner. The studio mixing takes place in a rather detestable atmosphere. Fortunately Freddie Mercury, cooler than the other members of the group, made the stamp. The final version is not very successful and seems doomed to failure.

EMI, the record company, decided to release the single despite everything, which ultimately had immediate success.
The musicians will meet several times to play together on stage which will lead to a Live album Queen Rock Montreal.
