The old town of Marbella whose heart is the Plaza de los Naranjos (Place des Orangers) is crisscrossed by a string of small Calle (streets) picturesque.
The historic center of Marbella respects traditional Andalusian architecture: narrow streets, white houses with balconies decorated with flowers, small shops, bars, restaurants and hidden squares decorated with statues, fountains and monuments. The urban layout of the old town dates from the era of the Arab medinas while the squares date from the post-Renaissance era.
The city of Marbella has managed to preserve its historic center despite the growth of national and international tourism.
