Guest on the set of It starts today, on France 2, Wednesday March 15, 2023, Mary Miriam revealed the sad reason why she stopped going on stage to sing. Mary Miriam married Michel Elmosnino, artistic director at Polydor, whom she met after her Eurovision victory. Together they had two children, Laurent, born in 1982, and Richard, born in 1990. In 2013, Michel Elmosnino died suddenly..
Since the death of my husband, I stopped singing, on stage at least. I worked with Michel, and his absence is difficult, it's very difficult for me. It's difficult to work without him. I did a show after his death, I forgot to cancel that one, and I cried on stage, I had a lot of trouble getting back on because it tightens your throat and stops you from speaking . I had a lot of trouble continuing the rest of the show, I finished it and at the end I said to my son: “It's the last one, I can't go on stage like that anymore”.
As a reminder, she had already spoken about this tragic disappearance, in May 2021. She had told the host of Micro Mirror on the radio channel Melody TV that everything happened very quickly:
He was gone in a minute. He had a massive heart attack, he is dead. Neither the SAMU nor anyone else managed to resuscitate him.. I had a hard time even telling myself that he was dead. I had a hard time understanding it. I had an even harder time telling my children. I didn't want to announce it over the phone, I asked them to come. What was hard for me was to say to myself: 'Here, I am going to say words that will hurt my children'”.
