The Argentine baritone Alejandro Meerapfel died Friday evening on stage at the Ambronay Festival, in Ain. A drama which occurred while the performance was broadcast on France Télévisions.
Alejandro Meerapfel (54 years old) suffered illness on Friday evening with fatal consequences while he was performing on stage during the festivalAmbronay, in aAin. All Cappella Mediterranea and the chamber choir of Namur were on stage in the abbey ofAmbronay under the direction of the Argentinian chef Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, when the artist felt unwell. The show was broadcast by France Télévisions on culturebox. Emergency services intervened and the public was quickly evacuated. Unfortunately, the artist could not be revived.
The Argentinian baritone trained in singing at Colon Theater of Buenos Aires. Interested in the baroque repertoire, he collaborated regularly with Leonardo Garcia Alarcon and his Cappella Mediterranea. His repertoire included opera, chamber music and oratorio from the Baroque to the present. He sang as a soloist both Amerique du Sud than in the largest European cinemas.
